In the beginning, people used wood, bone and stone as working materials. With the invention of new materials, the traditional materials were replaced, first by bronze, later by iron and since the beginning of the 20th century by plastic on an industrial scale. In our industrial society, the new materials are constantly being improved to meet the increasing demands. The tour of the archaeological exhibition leads from its beginnings in the Stone Age to the present day. The craftsmanship skills and innovative techniques that were necessary for the extraction and processing of materials are just as much a focus as the far-reaching trade in raw materials and the resulting economic and social changes in people’s lives.
