In our series “History Showcase” we regularly offer on each last Thursday of the month a lecture concerning the topics of archaeology or city history. National and international experts from various disciplines present their current projects, research and results to the public, showing exclusive picture material and footage of their latest discoveries.

This time, Prof. Dittmar Machule, Hamburg University of Technology, will talk about the “Pionierkaserne” and the transformation of a place that once served military training and now became a place of learning for a technology and future-oriented University.

The lecture will be in German. Unless otherwise stated, the events take place Thursdays at 6 PM in the ArchaeoLOGICUM in the Archaeological Permanent Exhibition at Harburger Rathausplatz 5, 21073 Hamburg.

The next lectures:

  • 26. September: Ute Drews, director of the Viking Museum Haithabu: „Viking Museum Haithabu – Showcase of an early city“
  • 31. Oktober: Dipl. Ing. architect Christoph Schwarzkopf, Heritage Institute of the districts Hamburg-Mitte and Harburg: „New Building in Harburg in the 1920s – Reflection of the Bauhaus? – A Tracing“
