Every Wednesday from 14.00 to 15.30, Hamburg museums offer public museum talks for people with dementia with their relatives or in a group with other accompanying persons. In the Archaeological Museum Hamburg, specially trained museum guides conduct the guided tours. Most important here is the joyful encounters of the guides with the visitors, of visitors with the exhibits and the encounters visitors experience among each other. Through the conscious engagement with exhibits from the past, which also play a role in our life today, the guided tour builds on the experiences, feelings and interests of the participants. Individual life experiences connect with memories of one’s past and are shared with the group. The participants are encouraged in an active conversation to tell stories about the items, but at the same time neither spontaneity nor imagination should be neglected.
The participation in the guided tours is free, the reduced entrance fee is 6 Euros per person. The accompanying person has free admission. The communication offers are made possible by the initiative ” Angebote Hamburger Museen für Menschen mit Demenz “, run by the Museumsdienst Hamburg and supported by the Stiftung Kulturglück and the Körber Foundation.
